'People are fearful' - the reasons 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the squad everyone fears.

The evidence is undeniable why Arsenal have become countless pundits' preferred choice to win the Premier League in the current campaign.

Look at their results against Fulham and Crystal Palace in contrast with those equivalent matches last season.

The Gunners have defeated all of them in the current season, but dropped 10 points across those games as they faded in the title race last season.

Defensive Strength

Arsenal's defensive solidity is a key reason why they are seeming ready to at last realize their title ambition.

They stand first for unbreached games (6), goals allowed (3), shots faced (72), shots on target faced (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is arguably the finest in the league, with Arsenal maintaining a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Proficiency

Their effectiveness from free kicks is widely recognized, but rival sides still find it difficult to contain the Gunners from these situations.

They have registered 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals coming from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a fear factor. People are just fearful of them and it is wonderful to see."

Title Potential

What is particularly impressive about Arsenal's commencement to the campaign is they have also played Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United on the road and Manchester City in their own stadium - and are still four points clear at the top.

While they continue triumphing, their traditional rivals are struggling. This marks the first time at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The pressure was on head coach Mikel Arteta at the beginning, having spent around £250m on eight summer additions in quest of that long-awaited first title since 2004.

But the business has so far paid off in style, with his side second top scorers in the league and boasting the tightest defense, despite several injuries.

  • Clean sheets in three straight Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without letting in a goal
  • Only a handful of concessions in 12 games across every tournament

Former players and analysts have described Arteta's men as a "unstoppable force, looking challenging to stop" with the whole club now functioning with belief and determination.
