Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

However, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
