Larian Studios Unveil a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
