Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
