Comeback Medvedev Secures First Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from that period of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first tour victory, took control to create a third set.

Moutet defended four early-game chances in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
