Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the incident left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
